William Sachiti, a Zimbabwean-born serial businessman working in the UK, founded the Academy of Robotics while being inspired by an idea as a student at Aberystwyth University in Wales.

It was an idea that struck him while he attempted to locate specific books he required in a library.

According to Forbes Africa, this was the inspiration Sachiti needed to help him build the first robot library where patrons could approach a robot and ask it where a certain book was located, and the robot would point them in the right direction. The Academy of Robotics, a technical institute with a focus on developing technology to carry out or simplify complicated activities, was subsequently established by him.

One of the first self-driving delivery cars to be granted a road license in Europe was Sachiti’s main product, the Kar-go Delivery Bot, which he constructed in 2020. According to Sachiti, 35, who spoke with Forbes Africa, “The company’s services now include self-driving deliveries, interior logistics robots, and road problem identification and analysis.”

He lived in Zimbabwe and the UK when he was growing up. William Sachiti claimed that his grandparents mostly farmed and herded cattle in a tiny community in Zimbabwe. Despite his wealthy upbringing, he found balance spending time with his grandparents in the village.

William Sachiti encountered odd jobs on his way to adding his quota to the tech world, like selling double-glazed windows and doors after moving to England in 2000. This ultimately resulted in landing a job as a stockbroker.

Thus began his entrepreneurial adventure. He started his first business at the age of 19. He founded 123 Registration, a company that sells thousands of websites and domain names. Despite the startup’s success, he sold it to a financier.

According to iharare.com, his second venture was the development of Clever Bins, a solar-powered digital advertising bin that served as a platform for city-wide advertising. To the BBC Dragons’ Den he brought Clever Bins.

The Dragons rejected his creation, calling it the worst concept they had ever heard. Nevertheless, he continued to license his invention in over 11 nations until someone ultimately bought the major license.

His second venture was a firm named MyCityVenue that offered activities. It had more than 1.6 million members within three years, and Secret Escapes eventually bought it. A major cab firm also bought the data.

Forbes claims that William Sachiti gained millions of pounds from the sale of many companies and used the proceeds to buy robots. He made his first try at building robots while studying robotics and artificial intelligence at Aberystwyth University in Wales.
