This problem has practically being experienced by everyone who has ever used the internet to browse web pages, wherein the internet user arrives at that webpage that refuses to open. At such instance, the user experiences the freakish albeit annoying ‘Connection Timed Out’ issue after the connection circle stops rotating to load the page.

It awkwardly happens most times when we are trying our best to log on to exciting web pages or links. This is partly due to the browser, Chrome for example failing to establish a connection with the web host of the site the user is visiting. Other times it is a backend issue on the website rather from your own end.

Perhaps there are some changes the website or webpage is undergoing or may be it is a fried link but then again, the user would be wise not to rule out the fault coming from their end.

Below are a few suggestions as to what could possibly be wrong or some answers to solving this problem.

This is of course one of the first problems the internet user needs to consider or verify before jumping to conclusions. Most times, it could be that the specific webpage we are trying to gain access to is broken or maybe the website in general has issues if other pages of the site gives similar issues to the internet user.

We all have off days, who says the internet also cannot have a slow start to their day? A lot of times when the ‘Error Time Out’ issue occurs, it is usually due to the internet connection being off from our own end. Hence, the browser throws off this message due to the fact the webpage is taking too long to respond. It is advisable at this point to test the Wi-Fi speed to be sure and make necessary adjustments to improve its speed.

So here are some of the suggestions should the problem be from your end:

Turn on the Chrome Incognito Mode

If you are using Chrome and you are experiencing the ‘Error Time Out’ issue, it is advisable the user turns on the incognito mode to try opening the same webpage again. To do this, the user needs to look to 3 vertical dots at the top right corner of the browser, there the user can select another window but this time in incognito mode.

Try Enabling a VPN to the Browser

The user is very likely to get the ‘Error Time Out’ issue if they browse through different webpages quickly with the server likely to see such movement or activity as spam. This is when the IP blockage of a website causes this issue for the user.

To solve an issue like this, turn on a VPN extension available for Chrome and assign yourself a different IP. After doing this, the user should try accessing the webpage again.

On the contrary if the user was masking their IP before, they should consider turning off the VPN, this might be the cause of the issue they are observing. It is not definite, but it should be considered.

On the other hand if the webpage loads perfectly in the VPN mode or with other browsers, then the user should consider a Chrome fix.

Clean Chrome’s Cache and Cookies

When a browser is piled up with cache and cookies, the browser can have this issue. What cache does mostly is to help the browser load contents faster but this becomes a problem when cache are not cleared from time to time and they start piling up. Hence, instead of making the browser to load pages faster, it slows them down leading to the ‘Error Time Out’ issue.

Flushing the DNS Cache might come in handy

It is advisable to try clearing the DNS cache to eliminate IP addresses and other DNS records that are stored and may be preventing connection from establishing. As stated earlier, these things piling up are actually problems for the browser when seeking to establish connection.

To flush out the DNS cache, the user follows this process; they open the Windows search and type the key word, ‘Command Prompt’. The user runs the search result as administrator then types in the letters, “ipconfig/flushdns” before hitting the enter button.

The user can also Change the DNS Server

Perhaps employing the alternative of the Google DNS might be an option to try out by changing to a different DNS server while looking to fix things.

Do a TCP/IP reset

When a TCP/IP setting is corrupted, this can affect the network and create connection problems for the user. This can also cause data packets to go through wrong routs between its source and destination. So in resetting the TCP/IP setting, the user basically follows the same process employed in wiping out the DNS Cache.

Again they go to the windows page, type in the keyword, ‘Command Prompt’, run it as an administrator before typing another keyword, ‘netsh int ip reset reset.log’ before hitting the enter button.

Once the process completes, the user is to reboot their computer.

If these alternatives come to nothing, the user can consider uninstalling and reinstalling another Chrome browser to see if the situation changes. But of course, this should rather be more of a last resort.
